Audience Feedback

The audience for my production ranged between 25-35 year olds because the films genre is thriller/action and touches on what could be considereed as controversial matters (due to the fact that terrorsim is involved in the taking of peoples lives and attacks against a government in particular) So therefore if the audience isn't mature enough to grasp the concept the film would not be effective.
This is just a few of my audiences thoughts on the film.
Sam:The film idea is good however the news reporter is very pixelated but apart from this it is good
Anne(mum): good effort but the news reporter isn't in good quality
Michael(dad):The film is good and I easily understood it however the news reporter dampens the effect of the film for me

This is an example of what my audience considered to be the main problem with my film and in order to try and solve this I need to find away to either 1.increase quality of video in mp4 format or 2.Use a different format of video which has a higher quality video to make my film more successful.

Transition from preliminary task

The transition from the preliminary task and the foundation production was a big step however I think I accomplished it and gained valuable information for my foundation production from my preliminary task.
Lighting-Without sufficient lighting the audience will not be able to clearly make out different characters however if this effect is wanted it is good. also it showed me what different levels of light can do for a scene and what emotions/moods it can portray
Editing-I learnt basic editing skills from the preliminary task (removing footage which wasn't needed which allowed me to further those skills which I needed in my foundation production.

Use of Media Technologies

During the filming of my production I used a variety of different moving image cameras and how the different qualities could be used to further my product. With the use of a tripod I was able to shoot without the risk of my hand jolting and with the tripod I could move the camera slowly if necessary to shoot a panning or tracking shot however this was not needed.
Construction-
-Whilst editing the media piece I used several different applications for example Imovie 9 (Film editing software) I used Imovie in the bringing together of my film and to add in additional audio files in the background of my film and conversation.
I also used Adobe after effects to be used as the program to make my blue screen run effectively and to be able to key out more than one shade of blue. It also allowed me to produce an animated banner to run along the bottom of my film to act as anchorage to the point of the film by adding text to the story.
-The program I used to make my audio is garageband because it is known for the good samples used to make soundtracks and they are easily merged together to produce a good effect intended for a film.
-To burn my production onto a dvd I used Idvd because it allowed me to make an animated title menu which looked good and it was on the mac which was more convenient for me because my production was finished at school and so I was able to burn it at that time
-Research
-During my research I used the most predominant form of research in this area different types of film which would be relevant to my production
Speed-a high speed thriller starring Keanu reeves trying to save the day
The kingdom-Action thriller, terrorism in the middle east as a group of brave soldiers try to defuse a terrorist plot
These were but a few pieces of film that inspired me for my production
-I also used the internet to find out what can make a good thriller film and how to make my piece as successful as possible and to further add to my inspirations for my film
-Planning
-during my planning the only form of media technology used was a program called comic life available on apple macs it allows a table to be drawn out in the style of a comic or any other type of table which is well suited to making a storyboard because it allows for the easy transfer of images and this can be used to make a storyboard which can be easily understood.
-Evaluation
-During my evaluation I had to view my production and to do this I used Idvd and VLC media player
-I used Idvd because it was available on the apple macs and i was able to play the production in slow motion to even further check whether my work was improperly edited and so on and so forth
-I used VLC media player also because I had it available on my home computer and was able to play the file format of my production which happened to be a .mp4 file which was better used in VLC media player than itunes due to its specificity of using video formats.

The use of planning

Planning allowed me to produce the work I made because it allowed me to keep my head about what i was doing and not stray from my original idea.
The main forms of planning I used were
•Mindmaps
•Storyboards
•Scripts

The mindmaps allowed me to get a clear idea as to what I was going to do by allowing me to put all my ideas onto one sheet of paper and then choose the idea i liked the most and continue planning

The storyboards were the most essential aspect to my production because they allowed me to go into detail with my production for example timings of scenes and the specific camera angles I was going to use but the most important role the storyboard played for me personally was making sure I didn't stray from my idea.

The script played a less important role in the planning helped me none the less. This was due to the fact that without a script the actor/actress would not know what to say and so this would make my production a failure and during filming would put more pressure on myself. This is a copy of my storyboard however it is slightly jumbled up so please follow the digits in brackets to discern what stage of the storyboard is (1 being the start 12 being the finish)
thankyou

Media institutions

The type of media institution which would examine my foundation production would be a film institution for example universal studios because my task was to produce the opening to a feature length film and universal studios are best known for making films so they would be a relevant company to describe my product.

What I've Learnt

From the experience of the foundation production I have learnt the importance of camera shots/angles and editing to produce a given effect for example in my film confusion and then understanding.
Also another interesting technique I learnt was how to make use of green/blue screens this technique was effective in my film because it allowed me to produce an artificial background and in a news report this was good because it allowed me to put a national icon which the audience can relate to.

Real media

For my production I got inspiration from footage such as the bbc news to try and use similar mise en scene and for the actual plot for my film I used ideas from the kingdom (A terrorism based film and the attempt to stop other attacks) and also speed another film involving terrorism. These helped me a lot because they allowed me to see what pieces of information the audience should be viewing in the opening minutes so they can begin to understand the plot.

To help me try to improve my film a real media film expert visited the school his name is Oscar stringer and he gave me some constructive feedback these are the main points he came up with.
-The audio level in my film was very low and would greatly impact my production if the audience would not be able to hear it
-The quality of my original footage wasn't very good so I needed to reshoot to make t
it better
-The use of a green/blue screen would allow me to place a more realistic news room feel and would improve my film

this is a shot taken whilst using a blue screen as you can see the background must be of a neutral colour and the lighting must be good.

The feedback given allowed me to improve my film which was very helpful.

The Kingdom one of the biggest inspirations for me starring Jamie Foxx

Another one of my biggest inspirations starring keanu Reeves

Representation of race

The is the representation of my antagonist is of the typical middle eastern terrorist with a concealed face only getting a small view of the terrorists face making it hard to distinguish who they are.
However in light of recent issues this could be wrong because the worlds most wanted man Osama Bin Laden is always shown on television with no cover on his face but those around him have facial coverings.

This is my view on the representation of a typical caucasian news reporter donning a suit and tie and being shown to be in control because of the information which they hold which the general public need to know on a daily basis therefore crave to be told . I think there are no representation issues here because this is how almost all news reporters are portrayed.

Forms and conventions

This post will be on the use of Forms and conventions from real media product
-Use
-The main media convention I used was the way I represented the terrorist. Like in The kingdom the real terrorist was not revealed because it adds to the suspense of the film because even though the protagonist knows what the situation is finding out who the antagonist is a near impossible task so this adds to the possible failure of the protagonist.
-Development
-I tried to develop the point of not only not showing the terrorist (his face which is the most defining feature of any person)
but also showing him plotting what to do to lay anchorage which allows the audience to have a small clue as to what will be happening during the film
-Challenging
-In most terrorism films the two main characters never usually interact only through the cations they perform (in a terrorism style film a bomb being set off to show that the terrorist is serious in what path he has taken) however I have made the protagonists and the antagonist interacting with the use of a phone call and then terrorist goes so far as to even leave a clue to the following events which in mist terrorism films such as the The Kingdom the good guys are always left to find out what is happening but in my film the terrorist leaves a clue but only a time scale which cold be a crucial piece of information or it couldn't be that is for the protagonist to decide.
